PSG Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
